TEMBALETU ACTIVE LEARNING CENTRE: Learning by Doing, Creating by Hand
At Tembaletu Active Learning Centre, learning is about much more than training. Through practical programmes that combine hands-on experience with real-world products, beneficiaries develop skills, confidence and workplace experience while creating items that are sold to the public. Whether working in the garden, kitchen or craft studio, participants are actively involved in transforming skills into products and products into opportunities.
The Story Behind the Products
Tembaletu’s enterprise activities are built around three learning spaces. The Micro Farm teaches urban agriculture, soil science, crop rotation and food production. Produce grown on-site is harvested and sold while beneficiaries learn practical farming skills that can be applied beyond the Centre.
The Food Lab combines cooking, baking and nutrition education. Beneficiaries participate in professional baking and cooking training while producing food items that are sold, creating early opportunities for entrepreneurship and income generation.
The Maker Studio focuses on beading and textile work. Here, beneficiaries create handmade handbags, home décor items and practical crafts, gaining experience in product development, production and sales.
