On 17 March, WCAPD marked World Social Work Day with a series of video reflections that gave South Africans a rare, honest look into the real pressures, decisions, and hopes that shape social work in the disability sector.
Recent engagements between the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) and disability organisations in the Western Cape brought long standing concerns into full view: accessibility remains inconsistent, representation within the IEC’s own teams is far too low, and persons with disabilities continue to face avoidable barriers when exercising a basic democratic right.
As we step boldly into 2026, our theme is clear: MiAPD, and with it’s own unique identity! This year, WCAPD calls on every branch, partner, and stakeholder to stand shoulder‑to‑shoulder with persons with disabilities. Inclusion is not the responsibility of one organisation alone it is a collective commitment that requires each of us to act.
