SUPPORTING THE WORK THAT SUSTAINS COMMUNITIES – with Sanlam

WCAPD recently received a generous donation of brand-new laptops from Sanlam, aimed at strengthening the digital and virtual capabilities of branches across the Western Cape.

This support is both timely and deeply appreciated.  Beyond the practical value of improved connectivity and functionality, the donation represents something more significant: a clear commitment from the corporate sector to support organisations working within the disability space, and to enable the vital, often complex work being done at community level.

As WCAPD continues to expand and adapt its services, the ability to engage effectively in digital spaces has become essential.  From online training and meetings to administrative functions and reporting, access to reliable technology directly impacts service delivery, communication, and overall organisational efficiency.

Experiences from the Field

Feedback from branches highlights the immediate and meaningful difference this support is already making.

At Witzenberg APD, the new laptop has greatly improved participation in online engagements.  Previously, technical challenges, particularly during Zoom meetings, limited consistent involvement in training and communication.  With the new device, staff are now able to engage more effectively, contributing to both improved performance and increased confidence in professional settings.

Similarly, Bergrivier APD has experienced tangible benefits.  The upgraded equipment has enabled more efficient administration, improved access to online learning opportunities, and greater continuity in productivity, even when work is conducted remotely.  Having recently experienced the loss of important documents due to outdated equipment, the addition of a reliable laptop provides not only practical support, but also a sense of security and stability moving forward.

Both branches expressed sincere appreciation for the impact of this contribution, recognising that such support directly strengthens their ability to serve persons with disabilities within their communities.

While this donation addresses immediate operational needs, it also speaks to a broader reality: sustainable service delivery increasingly depends on access to appropriate tools, infrastructure, and partnerships.  Initiatives such as this demonstrate how collaboration between the corporate sector and service organisations can extend beyond once-off contributions, creating opportunities to enhance capacity, strengthen systems, and improve long-term outcomes.
