GROWing FOR INCLUSION: A New Approach to Monitoring & Evaluation

The Western Cape APD’s GROW (Guide – Review – Oversee – Weigh) programme has been warmly welcomed by branches, who appreciate its collaborative approach to growth and development. This innovative programme focuses on guidance, review, oversight, and evaluation, emphasising partnership and growth rather than a top-down review.

A More Positive Approach

GROW is more than just an evaluation tool – it’s a powerful support and development process that encourages growth, reflection, and teamwork.  By fostering a more positive and constructive way of operating branches, GROW supports the Western Cape APD’s agenda of promoting ‘Inclusion for All’.

How GROW Works

The GROW visit is structured into three practical sessions that can double as an inspiring team-building exercise, a motivational checkpoint, and a pre-strategic planning boost.

The GROW session was very impressive, it helped the staff to share ideas and their working experience and what needed to be improved in the organisation to provide good service to our clients.  It also gave chance to Tygerberg APD to celebrate our achievements with staff members.  Our staff members were sharing ideas on how to improve the working environment with clients in the community as well with workshop members.

The GROW session was a huge success, with a more positive approach that encouraged participation and ownership.  By celebrating achievements and identifying strengths, we were able to formulate our own solutions and prioritise action steps.  The framework has also given us a useful tool to track our operations and feed into future reports.  We’re looking forward to continuing this positive growth trajectory and exploring ways to keep the process active.  Thanks to the WCAPD team for facilitating this valuable session!

Die “GROW”-vergadering is op ’n positiewe noot afgeskop deur te reflekteer op ons suksesse en hoe ver ons reeds gevorder het.  Dit het ’n konstruktiewe en gefokusde atmosfeer geskep wat deur die res van die dag voortgeduur het.  Dit was goed dat ons vir Kate en Crescendo ook deel van die vergadering gemaak het.  Die sessie was baie positief en opbouend en ek sal dit vir alle takke aanbeveel.  Ek was mal daaroor (veral omdat dit nie ‘n M&E was nie) – hahahahaha!
