We’re charting a transformative path that aligns our grassroots efforts with global environmental imperatives through a groundbreaking partnership with Urban Earth. Recognised for their work with government, development agencies, business, and not-for-profit sectors, Urban Earth connects with leading energy users to drive down consumption, reduce costs, and lower carbon footprints.

They identified our impactful work in mainly marginalised communities across the Western Cape as a model of community resilience and proactive adaptation to environmental challenges.

Managed by Urban Earth on behalf of a Canadian-based organisation, this initiative will see Western Cape APD conduct vital research among our beneficiaries and other users of our branches to uncover the real-world impact of climate change on impoverished communities. By revealing how environmental shifts affect those on the frontlines, the project not only advances scientific understanding but also empowers us to refine our operations and inform policy with data-driven insights.

This collaboration positions Western Cape APD as a thought leader at the nexus of public service and environmental stewardship. It offers long-term benefits by integrating innovative research into our operational framework, attracting sustainable funding opportunities, and strengthening our reputation as a forward-thinking, socially responsive entity.

As we prepare to commence fieldwork in due course, we are committed to sharing ongoing updates and outcomes that will drive both local community improvements and influence broader climate change strategies. The project is expected to conclude during the second half of 2026.
