BRANCHING OUT: Our Provincial Director’s Capacity-Building Mission
As Western Cape APD, we’re committed to enhancing the capabilities of our branches to deliver high-quality services to persons with disabilities. Recently, our Provincial Director embarked on a series of branch training sessions, focusing on capacity building and strategic planning. These sessions were designed to strengthen governance, enhance knowledge, and equip branch management committees with the necessary skills to lead their branches effectively. By investing in the knowledge and skills of its leaders, we aim to empower APD branches to function efficiently, maintain transparency, and provide sustainable impact.
Capacity Building for Effective Leadership
Our capacity-building sessions covered key topics such as transparent leadership, legislative compliance, and strategic governance. By addressing these critical areas, we’re enabling branch leaders to make informed decisions, drive their vision forward, and ensure compliance with policies and procedures.
Strategic Planning for a Stronger Future
In addition to capacity building, we facilitated strategic planning sessions to help branches develop their own vision and objectives. These sessions were structured around five key pillars: Teams, Policies & Procedures, Governance & Finances, Beneficiaries & Partners, and Marketing. By providing guidelines and promoting uniformity among branches, we’re empowering them to stay on course, evaluate their progress, and adapt their strategies as needed.
Become Involved and Make a Difference
We invite all stakeholders, including branch members, volunteers, and supporters, to get involved and support our mission. Whether it’s attending a branch meeting, participating in a training session, or spreading the word about our work, every effort counts. Let’s build stronger branches and create a brighter future for persons with disabilities in the Western Cape.

Management Team Feedback
I have been equipped with knowledge that has reignited my passion for Oudtshoorn APD and People with Disabilities. I am ready for the challenges of 2025
The Mancom (Management Committee) mentioned that the Mancom training was an eye-opener and insightful. They are not regretful for attending the training because now they know exactly what their role and function as management entails. They feel ready to take on their roles as management.
Staff Feedback
The change from the previous vision to the new one after all the ‘brainstorming’ was good. Easy to remember but so impactful.
The organisation’s lengthy and complex vision had become difficult for anyone to recall. By shortening it, we’ve made it more memorable. Our new vision is now clear and concise, effectively communicating George APD’s goals and commitment to equal opportunities for all.
