It’s not every day you get to celebrate nine decades of impact and at WCAPD, the excitement is already building.  As 2027 edges closer, we’re preparing for a milestone year that promises to honour our past, energise our present, and boldly shape our future.  And just like everything we do, this celebration is rooted in people, stories, and the powerful communities that make our work possible.

Ninety years of advocacy, inclusion and unwavering commitment to persons with disabilities is a legacy worth lifting high.  From small-town stories of resilience to province-wide systems change, WCAPD’s journey has been written through the lives of thousands – families, volunteers, professionals, partners and every person who ever walked through our doors and found a place of belonging.

And now, we want YOUR stories to help us write the next chapter.

Do you, or someone you know, have memories, photos or lived experiences connected to APD from years gone by?  Perhaps you remember the early days of your local branch, a community event that left its mark, or a person whose kindness shaped your life.  These stories are more than nostalgia they are pieces of our shared history, threads that weave together the rich tapestry of our 90‑year legacy.

Throughout 2026, we’re gathering these personal moments and reflections.  Some may feature in our special 2027 commemorations, others may inspire the themes of events still to come but all will help illuminate how far we’ve come, and why our work continues to matter.

Over the coming months, we’ll be revealing exciting updates about the anniversary programme; events, exhibitions, opportunities to participate, and ways for communities across the Western Cape to celebrate alongside us.  This milestone isn’t just a WCAPD achievement… it’s a community celebration, a province-wide moment of pride.
