AIDA: Matching Motivation with Opportunity

At WCAPD, inclusion isn’t just about access, it’s about fit.  Adult Inclusion Drive Assessment (AIDA) is a practical tool designed to help social workers match adults with impairments to the right Skills and Work Centre (SWC) programmes, based on their motivation and drive.

In the absence of appointed occupational therapists, AIDA fills a critical gap. Through the creative process of collage-making, it offers insight into an individual’s level of , a key factor in determining whether they’re ready to participate in vocational tasks and contribute meaningfully to a work-focused environment.  It also goes deeper, helping professionals understand, not just what a person can do, but what they’re driven to do.

Recent AIDA training sessions across various branches, including Overstrand, Laingsburg, Mossel Bay, Oudtshoorn, Beaufort West, Olifantsrivier, Witzenberg, Cape Town, and Tygerberg – have equipped social workers with the skills to administer the tool effectively.  The result is more accurate placement, better programme fit, and a stronger foundation for personal growth.

When the match is right, the impact is real.  Clients begin to thrive, not only gaining confidence and routine, but also contributing to their teams and communities.  In some cases, they transition into the open labour market, equipped with the motivation, skills, and experience to take that next step.

These outcomes ripple outward. Families see renewed purpose.  Communities benefit from increased participation.  And the narrative around disability shifts from limitation to participation.

AIDA helps us get there.  It’s not just a tool. It’s a bridge!
