At WCAPD, we prioritise investing in social workers as well as auxiliary staff to enhance their capacity, ensuring the delivery of professional, developmental social work services and best practices to individuals with disabilities, their families, and communities.

Peer Support

We place great value on lived experience as a powerful tool in addressing challenges.  Peer supporters, who are trained individuals with disabilities, are central to this effort as they provide crucial support and guidance to others facing similar situations within their communities.  This initiative is grounded in the ethos of Community-based Rehabilitation (CBR), highlighting the importance of collaboration and inclusivity.

Peer supporters undergo comprehensive training to fully understand their roles, becoming reliable resources for social workers and ensuring optimal inclusion of persons with disabilities in social work programmes.  Additionally, we provide training to APD staff at branch level, equipping them with the skills to effectively utilise and administer the Peer Support Programme.

This ensures that social work services are accessible and inclusive for individuals with disabilities and their families.

Social Work Supervision

Social workers and support staff can participate in monthly and bi-monthly individual supervision sessions, bi-monthly individual consultations, quarterly group supervision sessions, and quarterly APD branch group supervision sessions.  These opportunities aim to enhance their knowledge, capacity, and resilience in providing developmental social services while prioritising the human dignity of persons with disabilities.

Performance Management

Performance management is an integral part of WCAPD’s planning process, aimed at improving employee performance, enhancing skills, knowledge, and service delivery, ultimately improving both employee performance and our services to persons with disabilities.

Ukhula Programme

The Ukhula Programme embodies change and growth, aiming to empower individuals with disabilities to experience personal growth, impact their communities, and contribute to a more inclusive society. Divided into two parts for adults and children with disabilities, the programme emphasises peer support and embraces the principles of Community-based Rehabilitation (CBR), highlighting inclusivity and collaboration.

BrightStar Life Programme

WCAPD’s BrightStar Life Programme fosters personal and leadership development by guiding individuals to discover and grow their abilities and emotional intelligence in a fun and safe environment.  Our four trained mentors assist management committees in capacity building.
